Beating The Odds For 20-Plus Years
The average lifespan of any home remodeling company in the Greater Sarasota, FL area is under five years. More often than not, the fatal blow is self-inflicted, often in the first year. Poor management, poor performance, or just plain a poor attitude have sunk more companies than can be counted.
Creating A Culture Of Success
The road to success for any home remodeling business is long and difficult, with many traps waiting for the unwary. The first step toward success is usually made of luck. Happy accidents like falling into the right market at the right time, holding a skill that is considered valuable, or getting the right client have set more companies marching toward success than any carefully laid plan.
Staying on that road, however, takes everything but luck. It takes determination, hard work, and a solid plan. But more than any of that, it takes satisfied customers talking to their friends. And it takes a reputation for quality work.
Building The Right Company
As we grew from a one-man operation into a true home remodeling business, we were careful to instill our core values into each new employee. We trained them not only on what to do but how to do it.
We selected candidates for kindness before skill since skill can be learned, but kindness comes from within. We looked for a willingness to go the extra mile for our clients, not for the pay but because it was the right thing to do. And we looked for those interested in a career, not just a job.
Keeping Our Word
We’ve always been careful to control our growth. The last thing we want is to grow beyond our ability to make and keep promises to our clients. Nothing will destroy a company more quickly than a string of failures and the reputation that comes with them.
This isn’t to say we never make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. But we are quick to solve the rare issues that crop up and never charge our clients for the extra time or materials needed to make things right. Since the very beginning, we’ve stood by our quotes, and that isn’t going to change just because the projects have become more complex.
Sweating The Small Things
It is impossible to maintain a culture when you let the small things go awry. That’s why we make sure our job sites are kept clean, our workers are well-groomed, and our work vehicles are always clean. To us, these things are just as important as a properly drawn blueprint or a perfectly level frame. They are a constant reminder to all who work for Gilbert Design Build that everything matters, no matter how small.
Always Looking Ahead
Another reason companies fail is that they refuse to change. We will never fall victim to that mistake. We have made relentless innovation one of our core values. We are always on the lookout for new ways to do things and new products. Media rooms, especially, are constantly evolving, and we make sure that we keep up with any new technology that comes along.
We are always willing to adapt new concepts if they improve our methods or the results our clients so enjoy. We absolutely refuse to allow ourselves or our clients to get left behind as the world changes around us all.
Dedication To Our Community
Sometimes, as companies grow, they lose sight of where they began. We keep those first clients in mind every day. That’s why we still offer Handyman Services to the Greater Sarasota area. The jobs may be small, but the effect on the lives of those we help can be huge.
We also offer free seminars to help our neighbors learn different techniques for the design and build process. We want to share our knowledge. It helps to make us a valuable part of our community and allows us to give back and acknowledge the privilege of running a successful business here in Greater Sarasota.
The Next 20 Years
Our goal is to continue growing and employing more craftspeople, more design experts, and more builders. We want to provide them with a fantastic place to work and our clients with an experience that enriches their lives above and beyond the simple fact of a new structure.
We will continue to give our clients a Pleasant, Positive, and Professional experience with every project we build. We will also continue to provide a high-quality life for our employees and give back to the community that has been so kind to us these past 20-odd years.
