How do you calculate a remodeling budget?

Your remodeling investment will be determined by the scope of work, the grade of finishes and features you choose, the size of the area that's being remodeled, and others. To get a better idea of what a remodel can cost, check out our blogs about kitchen remodel costs and whole home remodel costs.

What is the first step to getting started?
Our first step is always to meet with you in person. No matter who you choose we strongly recommend meeting, in person, and preferably at their place of business. You can learn so much about a firm this way and it is essential for your safety, and to be sure you have chosen the right firm for your needs. We want to learn as much as possible about your needs and we want you to learn as much as possible about us too. This is foundational to a successful and secure collaboration, ensuring that you have chosen the right firm for your unique requirements.
How soon can you start the remodel?
While we take pride in being a highly sought-after service provider due to our unwavering commitment to quality, it's important to note that our popularity means that projects can take a bit longer to get started.
We prioritize ensuring that all material and permit (if required) is all in hand before we begin your remodel. This can range from 6 weeks to 90 days after everything has been decided.
What areas do you service?
We are based in Sarasota, and provide remodeling services in the Southwest Florida, (the Suncoast) area. We work extensively in the Osprey, Nokomis and Venice areas of Sarasota county as well as in Manatee county and Bradenton. We also work in Longboat Key and Lido Key and Siesta Key.
Do you offer financing?
Certainly, we're pleased to offer tailored financing options, ensuring that your project not only meets high standards but also aligns with your budget. Our goal is to make the process as smooth and accessible as possible, allowing you to embark on your project with confidence.
How long have you been in business?

Will I be able to select my own products for my remodel?
Absolutely! You will work with your design consultant in our showroom to choose every feature and finish. Your consultant will guide you through the process to ensure your selections won't exceed your budget while reflecting the overall design style you envision.
What is the kitchen triangle and why is it important?
The "kitchen triangle" is all about making your life easier in the kitchen. It's a smart layout that connects the three main work spots - the sink, stove, and fridge - in a triangular shape. This setup is a game-changer because it cuts down on how much you have to walk around, making cooking and cleaning up way more efficient. Essentially, it's about keeping your kitchen workflow smooth and hassle-free, so you can focus on whipping up amazing meals without any extra fuss.
How long is your design process?
The design process should take between 3 and 6 months on average. Of course, this could vary depending on the complexity of your project, your availability for meetings and consultations, and the number of revisions you require. However, the beauty of the design-build process is that the timeline overall is shorter than the traditional method, including the design phase.
Do you have a designer in house?
Yes! This is a major benefit of working with a design-build firm: your design team and construction team are all under one roof. You won't have to hire separate professionals to complete your remodeling project or enjoy impeccable design and craftsmanship.
Which home improvements add the most value?
Several factors go into determining the return on investment (ROI) on a remodeling project. In general, a kitchen or bathroom remodel will increase your home's value, but how much? The ROI will depend on the grade of materials you choose, how well the update fits into the rest of your home, if it improves flow and function, and other factors. Working with our designer is a great way to understand more about your project's ROI and to get the best ROI possible.
Is there a fee for design services?
Yes, because we recognize design as a vital investment in the success and quality of your remodeling project. Every project is unique, and most require some amount of design to result in the desired results.
Our design process involves a dedicated allocation of time, expertise, and resources to craft a solution tailored precisely to meet your needs. With our team of highly skilled professional designers, we ensure that every detail aligns seamlessly with your vision. This initial investment is intended to deliver a meticulously thought-out design, contributing significantly to a more satisfying and ultimately successful end result for your project.
Can you help with aging in place?
We specialize in thoughtful design and renovations that enhance the functionality and comfort of your living space, allowing you or your loved ones to age in the home with dignity and independence. Our CAPS certification in the specialization of ADA-compliant spaces ensure a functional and beautiful space.
Construction
Do you use subcontractors?
At Gilbert Design Build, we have a network of vetted subcontractors who are experts in their trades. The electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople we trust help to carry our reputation as a professional, detail-oriented, respectful, and honest firm.
Should I consider moving out of my house for a remodel?
Whether you temporarily move out or not will likely be determined by what part, or parts, of your home are being remodeled. A Sarasota kitchen remodel will mean you will be without a functioning kitchen and need to set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in your home, order take-out for every meal, or depend on friends and family. A whole home remodel will most certainly require you to live elsewhere for the duration of your remodel.
What do you do if something unexpected comes up, or if I decide on a change?
At the outset of your project, we meticulously consider all details, leveraging the expertise of our designers who use visual tools to align your vision with precision. While our thorough planning minimizes the likelihood of unexpected surprises, we understand that changes can arise. We have a streamlined Change Order process in place, ready to accommodate any necessary adjustments.
How do you handle change orders?
At Gilbert Design Build, we handle change orders with a structured and transparent process to ensure clarity and satisfaction. Initially, we review the contract to identify the need for a change order, which typically includes project information, a detailed description of the proposed changes, and an assessment of the impact on costs and schedule. We then create an official change order request, followed by a collaborative agreement phase, where we negotiate terms and costs. Finally, once approved, the change order is documented in a change order log, maintaining an organized record of all modifications and ensuring the project progresses smoothly and as scheduled.
How long does remodeling take?
Of course, this varies based on the Scope of Work, and each project is unique, but let’s use a bathroom as a typical example. On average, a bathroom remodel may take anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks for a straightforward renovation involving cosmetic changes. However, more extensive renovations, such as structural modifications or complete overhauls, can take six to eight weeks or longer. It's important to discuss the specific details of the project with us to get a more accurate estimate based on your unique requirements. Our focus is on delivering timely results without sacrificing craftsmanship.
Are there warranties provided for your work?
We stand behind the quality of our work with comprehensive warranties. Our contract includes a two year warranty for our workmanship. Products utilized in your project come with the backing of manufacturers' warranties. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to backing up our work.
Do I have to be there to get the work done?
Often times clients want us to remodel during a period of time when they will not be in the property. In fact, many clients choose to have their remodeling done while they are away, as it greatly reduces disruption to their daily lives. This approach is particularly popular with our 'snowbird' clients, who leave for the summer and return to a beautifully transformed home and they love it!! We keep in touch through the project portal where we can post photos and videos. We can highlight specific areas if needed or just share the day-to-day transformation.
How will you ensure the safety of my property during the remodel?
Safety and security are paramount concerns for us throughout the entire remodeling process. We place a strong emphasis on implementing secure practices to safeguard both your property and our personnel. Our experienced team is well-versed in using protective measures to minimize any potential risks. From securing the work area to adhering to industry-standard safety protocols, we take every precaution to create a safe environment.
