Here at Gilbert Design Build, we take bathroom remodeling in Sarasota very seriously. It’s our job to make sure clients are satisfied from our first meeting, to the completed project, and even in the years to come. This project is a perfect example of how we can help homeowners meet and exceed their expectations for bathroom remodeling in Sarasota.
We met this client at a home show back in 2015; however, they had been thinking about remodeling their master bathroom for quite some time. With the home being built in 2001, it was over ten years old and cosmetically outdated for our client’s taste. Aside from the aesthetic changes that our client desired, they also wanted to modify the size of their existing shower to accommodate for a larger bathtub.
In planning the new bathroom, it was important to our clients that we incorporated interior design elements they desired, such as gray and blue tones and glass accents. In starting the remodel of our client’s master bathroom, we removed everything original to the space, except for the flooring in the main area and private water closet. This included the vanity cabinet area (countertop, sinks, and mirror), the tub and tub surround, the shower enclosure and tile, as well as the vanity light.
Remodeling the Walk-in Shower
Once the demo was complete, we got to work on the shower area. We poured new concrete, framed a knee wall to add a separation between the tub area, molded a new shower curb, and prepped for tile. Our client chose a ceramic floor and wall tile that coordinated with their existing floor tile, as well as transitional mosaic tiles for a custom framed box on the shower headwall.
In completing the shower portion of this project, we installed a frameless glass enclosure and a brushed nickel handheld shower.
Remodeling the Bathroom Tub
With the shower good to go, we moved our attention to the tub portion of the room where we had to re-frame the deck area and run wiring to accommodate the new larger jetted tub.
Once the tub was put in place, we laid granite on the tub deck and extended the wall tile from the shower onto the wall surrounding the tub. We also incorporated the same mosaic tiles from the box in the shower and installed them as accents around the tub.
Remodeling the Bathroom Vanity
Moving on to the vanity area, we installed a custom gray-toned Wellborn Select vanity cabinet, positioned two porcelain rectangular under-mount sinks, and laid the granite countertop. The client chose the same granite which was used on the tub deck, and also incorporated the glass mosaic backsplash from the tub and shower areas as well. Amerock knobs and pulls were placed on the doors and drawers, and Moen Eva widespread faucets were installed on the countertop.
With the existing vaulted ceiling, we wanted to do something special above the vanity versus the plate glass mirror that was there previously. To tie the vanity and mirror area together, we added cabinetry components to create a backdrop for the two specialty mirrors and scone lights. Furthermore, we also installed lighting above the backdrop crown molding, which could be dimmed at the touch of a button within the vanity cabinet. Our client liked this bathroom feature because it was not too bright, but bright enough for her to use as a night light. These custom details were a great touch to the overall look and feel of the bathroom, providing a spa-like, transitional vibe.
