Remodel Reveal: A Tranquil and Relaxing Master Bath

The Background:

Our client came to us after attending one of our remodeling seminars in April of 2015. Her main focus was remodeling her 1993 outdated master bathroom, which was connected to a large walk-in closet and a spacious bedroom. The client had done a kitchen remodel a few years prior and that got her thinking about doing a master suite remodel in the future. Her ideal bathroom remodel included creating a new vanity space, which would consist of adding new and updated light fixtures and a new countertop. In addition to the vanity, she wanted to remodel her shower and bathtub area, and remove all of the carpet throughout her bedroom and bathroom. Our client wanted to re-tile all those areas to give her home a fresh new look.

The Solution:

Once hired for the job and all of the necessary materials were in, we began her remodeling transformation by tearing out all existing materials, which included the shower, tub area, vanity and carpet.

Our client wanted popcorn free ceilings, so we installed a new and contemporary texture to the ceilings in her bathroom, bedroom and walk-in closet. Once the texturing was complete, we laid all new wood-like Bedrosians 8×24 porcelain floor tile. Once the flooring was in, we moved our attention to the vanity area where we installed a double sink Showplace cabinet and a beautiful Cambria quartz countertop. Two undermount porcelain sinks were installed and the vanity was finished off with Amerock, Creased Bow pulls in brushed nickel.

When it came to remodeling the shower, we were tasked with making the space a true walk-in shower with no door. With that being said, we modified the plumbing and re-located the shower lever to the opposite side of the shower head, which would allow for the water temperature to be adjusted prior to entering the shower. We also built-out three niches in the shower walls to allow for soap and other shower necessities. For the shower wall tile, we laid glass accents in a vertical pattern, which gave off a sleek, contemporary feel.

Continuing with the natural, outdoors theme of our client’s bathroom, we laid shaved pebbles on the shower floor. These not only look unique, but also feel amazing on your feet and provide a slip-resistant surface. The original shower area also included an arched window, which we intricately lined with the shaved pebbles. This extra detail really tied the whole shower together and created a unique one of a kind space.

In completing the shower, we reinstated the contemporary look our client was going for by installing modern style plumbing fixtures, like the Moen 90 degree, brushed nickel eco-performance handheld shower and the Moen, 90 Degree brushed nickel one-handle open waterway bathroom faucet used for the vanity

We then focused our attention on the bathtub area where we replaced the existing tub with an American Standard, 60” drop in. We also re-tiled the area with a glazed porcelain tile and installed a brushed nickel tub faucet.

Overall, while the footprint of the bathroom remained the same, the aesthetic transformation really elevated the space and gave it a clean, coastal, seascape feeling. Our Design Consultant Jennifer Strohl, commented on the transformation, “Our client wanted a ‘coastal contemporary’ look with clean lines and soft colors.  She loved the way the different materials complemented each other with the driftwood looking floor tile, the river pebbles and the quartz countertops resembling a sandy shoreline.”

This coastal contemporary bathroom was finished off by painting the walls with Sherwin Williams color, Nantucket Dune. This warm, neutral tone is very soothing and blends well with all of the elements featured in this bathroom. Our coastal, sea themed master bathroom is complete!
